Kartik Prints A retro-graphic representation of Kartik, a semi-divine mythic toad creature. Originally one of the servants of the sky god, Kartik jumped from cloud to cloud delivering water to the earth. One day, where the clouds meet the mountains, Kartik encountered a great monkey. The monkey promised Kartik freedom from the sky, by making him a god on earth with his own domain if he would bring him lightning. Kartik swallowed one of sky's golden snakes and hid it in his leg. When Kartik returned to the mountain to claim his place on earth monkey ripped Kartik's leg from his body. Lightning shot out of the severed limb piercing soil and stone, creating a giant chasm in the mountain. Monkey retreated into the jungle canopy with the severed leg filled with lightning. Shamed, Katik tried to jump back into the sky but could no longer jump high enough to reach the clouds. Being unsteady by missing a limp, Kartik fell into the chasm in the mountain. Roots and vines eventually wove themselves over the hole. Eternaly trapped, Kartik stares into the sky and weeps rivers of tears which flow from the mountains The images for these prints were created digitally. ________________________________________ On canvas ________________________________________ On Paper: |
